Barbara Seawright

–

Hugoton, Kansas

Barbara Esther Voiles was born on July 27, 1945, in Liberal, Kansas, to John Devon Voiles and Esther Blackmer Voiles. One of five children, she was raised in Hooker and attended the Hooker school system. Unbeknownst to her, she would attract the attention of her future husband and lifelong best friend after Rodney Seawright drove by on his Cushman Eagle scooter from his fourteenth birthday. As Rodney still tells it, “She pursued me from then on.”

Barbara was a proud Hooker High School graduate, Class of 1963. After graduation, she attended the University of Oklahoma joining her mother and sister in the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She graduated in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Letters where she received the academic honor of Phi Beta Kappa. Barbara and Rodney were united in marriage on August 17, 1968, at the Hooker Methodist Church, where they still hold their memberships today. Their 57-year marriage was a testament of faith & devotion! To this union, three children were born: Phillip, John, and Allyson.

Barbara was also a very devoted Hookerite. She served on the Board of Directors at the First National Bank of Hooker for thirty-one years, was the initial manager of the Main Street Program to revitalize the downtown of Hooker, and a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Barbara’s greatest joy came from raising her children and becoming a doting grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, J.D. and Esther Voiles, and her two brothers, Douglas Blackmer Voiles and John David Voiles.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Rodney Seawright of the home; Son, Philip Seawright and wife Christina of Briarcliff, Texas, daughters, Emily and Carli; Son, John Seawright and wife Leslie of Ozark, Missouri, son, John Cameron; Daughter, Allyson Seawright of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Sisters, Rebecca Montgomery and husband Tom of Fort Collins, Colorado and Zella Bess Martens of Hooker, Oklahoma. Barbara is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.
